How Music Can Change Your Mood
Music
is powerful. Music has the ability to inspire us, motivate us, and
helps us relax. Music is quite complex in its elements and yet simple
in its ability to move us. In the times that we live in, there is such
a vast amount of music available to listen to. Music lovers can attest
to the fact the music has the ability to change your mood, positively
or negatively. Although the positives will be discussed, it is
important to note that some music can have a negative effect on
individuals because of the harsh words and tempo used. However, most
music can be used as a source to change one's mood for the positive.
Motivation
If
you have ever played a team sport in high school, on a community
league, or on a professional level, chances are you have listened to up
tempo, loud music before the big competition. Athletes all over the
world use music to get themselves emotionally ready for competition. It
is well known that Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps listens to rap
music before his swim competitions. He says that it helps him get ready
and pumps him up.
Inspiration
Since
the beginning of religious worship, music has played a huge part in
many religions. Even the bible sometimes talks about how music is
played and sung in heaven. It is a means to show appreciation for God.
Many people feel that it is a form of worship and helps them feel
nearer to God. Music changes one's mood by inspiring them to want to be
better and help others.
Focus And Relaxation
Studies
show that for students trying to memorize material, having calm music
in the background may actually help the mind retain things learned and
it can help the mind recall things the student has previously studied.
Other studies show that when mothers play music to their unborn
children in the womb it may help with their development and brain
function.
Many people listen to music while they are trying to go
to sleep. They claim that soft toned music helps them relax and fall
into a more restful sleep. Music can also help individuals relax and
unwind at the close of a stressful day.
Music has always been a powerful influence on the human mind and
emotions. Whether getting ready for the big game or trying to fall
asleep at night, music can affect the way we think or feel.
